Military personnel could be deployed to Chicago later this week and Trump is also seeking to federalize Illinois' military reserve. A similar effort to send forces to Portland, Oregon was blocked by a judge in that state.

Federal funding lapse continued for another week, with Congressional leaders making little headway toward reaching a deal to restart funding, while the executive branch warned it was moving forward with plans to reduce the government employees.
