Manchester United Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her deal, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. This signing will be seen as a marquee coup for the WSL team.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans following a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

The acquisition of the German international coincides with a period when United appear to be building momentum.

Recent performances include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
