Armed assailants have fatally shot an educator and seized a minimum of 25 learners in an assault against a female high school in the northwestern part of Nigeria, police reports indicate.
The gang of attackers stormed the comprehensive secondary school for girls in Kebbi State's Maga area at around 4 AM local time on the beginning of the work week, authorities reported.
The attackers "exchanged fire with security forces on duty in a gun duel" before scaling the perimeter fence and taking the pupils captive from their living quarters, according to a statement.
A school employee was fatally shot while defending the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now receiving treatment.
