Adult Swim's Top New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block debuted a new season of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, later that same month, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. During a period often defined by bleakness, this show's earnestness found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Significant Investment
On December 18th, Adult Swim confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for a further two seasons. This gives creator Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three well-mannered teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who took a chance on the show and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to continue exploring the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and uniquely eerie." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and advocated for its distinctly quirky sensibility.
"All of you showed up for this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a wholesome alternative" to other adult animated fare. There’s something deeply soothing about watching this lovable family go about their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He attributed this trend to a broader media landscape.
“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we just have to laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”
The Path Forward
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially catalyze that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to enjoy the gentle humor of the beloved Campbell clan.
The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is currently streaming on HBO Max.
