A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future away from worry.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The craze became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Future Secured
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to open the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It embodies the character of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
